About the Artist

Artist Bio

Robyn Andrews, an American artist, paints with acrylics, oils, and mixed media. Formerly a resident artist at CoRK Arts District in Jacksonville, Florida; she now maintains a private studio.

Deeply influenced by abstract expressionism, her art is inspired by complex dreams and the philosophy of human nature. The result is vivid, abstract pieces that examine the influence of color and composition on  the psyche.

Ms. Andrews is self-taught and recently studied at the Fare Pittura Atelier d'Arte in Milan, Italy under the personal direction of master watercolorist and oil painter, Francesco Fontana.   She is an advocate for human rights and women's issues.

Artist Statement

I paint abstractly for personal emotional expression, utilizing  primarily acrylic and oil  on canvas.  My early  work focused on experimenting with color field painting and the contrast and comparison of vibrant colors and shapes.

Recent series work explores  philosophical theories, particularly those of Plato, as reflected in the  “Divided Line” series, which graphically represents the Allegory of the  same name, and the “Dissociation” series, which investigates Plato’s  Theory of Good and Evil.

Through the use of bold color blocking,  geometric shapes, and fluid brush strokes, I strive to produce vivid, abstract pieces  that examine the influence of color and composition on the psyche and  stimulate an emotional reaction on a subconscious level.  I believe that art should inspire feeling in the viewer and lead to introspection.
